Speaking of.. Glass Stories by Donatella Taverna
As in the best tradition of artists, Monica Dessì quotes and illustrates, but is unable to fully explain the reasons for her indomitable need to express herself in form: and in a non-functionalized form – she clearly rejects the hypothesis of a “design” reading of her artistic action – but rather in absolute freedom of research, made (perhaps) easier by the use of a material such as glass.
The little card that attempts an explanation for her opens with some of her words: “I felt the glass, the shapes and the colors on my skin and I started to have fun with them”; in reality her “having fun” consists in finding a voice for thoughts that are not always defined and distinct that she feels inside herself; also for questions that she asks herself, like everyone else, exploring the secret meanings of life. I don’t know if she is satisfied with the works she has created, certainly what she has done is not enough for her, she has to work to be: “This is the game that made me breathe the true joy of living”.
